Brachistochrone Trajectories

  • A "turn and burn" maneuver with three distinct phases:
  1. Acceleration Phase (Blue): Ship accelerates along initial direction with constant thrust
  2. Flip/Coast Phase (Yellow): Ship maintains velocity while performing a 180° rotation to prepare for deceleration
  3. Deceleration Phase (Red): Ship uses its engines to slow down and stop precisely at the destination
  • The trajectory calculation uses real physics principles:
  • Constant acceleration based on the ship's thrust-to-mass ratio
  • Conservation of momentum during the coasting phase
  • Natural orbital mechanics considerations for gravity interactions
